About White Dahlia Studios:
White Dahlia Studios is led by husband and wife: Kin and Christie. We specialize in Weddings and Lifestyle photography. Inspired by the love and beauty in the celebrations of the people we photograph, we strive to create beautiful and timeless images that can be cherished for a lifetime.
Why did you become a photographer?
Christie:
I always dreamt of a job that I would enjoy and be great at so that it doesn't feel like just another job. Creative work has always been on my mind, but I was too afraid to pursue it. Being in an office environment for over 5 years, I felt that it just wasn't the right fit for me. I’m hardly the type that can sit still for more than 2 hours straight.
The first time I fell in love with photography was the first time we got to photograph a couple and seeing the results truly made me happy. I love seeing our clients' face light up when they see their photos for the very first time. It truly makes this job easy for us and it has truly been a blessing. I also get to work with my wonderful husband!
Kin:
My passion for telling a story through visuals was the main reason I got into wedding photography. While memories are made during the event, those precious moments can only be truly captured by the camera. To be able to be responsible for that, is one of my goals - my dream job if you will.
How would you describe your photography style?
We love creating beautiful images that captures the true essence of who our clients really are. By getting to know each of them, their stories, their unique styles - we make those extra efforts to ensure that they receive photos that they can look back on for many years.
Our style is a blend of photo-journalism with magazine style portraits. We love capturing raw emotions. Those happy tears, the hugs, the laughter, and the celebrations. However, we do provide some posed photos and family / friends group photos because we know those are important too!
What do you think distinguishes your work from that of other photographers?
What sets us apart is that we strive to document weddings as they are, with authentic emotions. We like to capture the candid moments, the details, the slight imperfections and the very raw emotions. We think these photos really tells the story of the very special day and most photographers forget that.
We also believe in timely communication by replying to emails as soon as possible. By meeting with our clients and communicating often, we take that time in getting to know them and their unique stories.
How many weddings do you shoot a year?
It varies every year, but we take on a small amount of weddings each year so that we ensure quality is met. We don't hire a 3rd party to edit our photos or to photograph weddings for us. It is solely a husband and wife team.
How soon do people receive their photography photos?
Usually between 6-8 weeks.
How many images do you take?
It really depends on what package the client chose when they book with us.
How can brides save money on their wedding photos?
Our packages are fairly priced. However if a bride is on a very tight budget, we can create a custom package for them.
What happens when you fall ill on the wedding day?
We have a few photographers that we have for back up, but we have never fell ill on a wedding day.
What is the process after the wedding?
After the wedding, we select and edit each of the photos carefully. While creating these beautiful images, we like to preserve the natural beauty of the images and don't usually go heavy on Photoshop. We also never deliver any un-edited images. After the editing process, we place the photos on a private online gallery for clients to view. The clients can then select images they like, if they chose to purchase prints or an album. All our edited photos are delivered on a custom USB with print quality (for printing) and web quality (to share with friends and family).
We also keep a copy of the photos for back up (up to 5 years), in case a client loses their photos.
What advice would you give an upcoming bride & groom?
We advise upcoming brides and grooms to enjoy the moments of their very special day! If there are any particular style of photography that they love, don't hesitate to share it with us! We have a Pinterest account so they can pin up some ideas or themes and share them with us. We are more than happy to plan these ideas with them!
