Amanda and Rene´s Navy Blue Modern Country Vancouver Wedding

While there were some country elements in the wedding, such as Amanda’s cowboy boots, the choice of sunflowers and the use of wood, they were mixed up with modern touches, such as the choice of navy blue for the bridesmaids dresses and the choice of venue, which is a mixture of wooden beams and glass windows.

Amanda took DIY to the next level by purchasing a Circut and making all the programs, invitations, table numbers, seating chart, labels for the guest favours etc. herself. Her entire family helped out to create her vision and everything worked out beautifully together.

Her dessert buffet was an impressive compilation cookies! And we loved the cute cupcakes with little flowers on the top. All DIY.

A Word from the Bride

My favorite wedding day moment was our modified first look. My husband did not want to see me before I walked down the aisle, but we wanted to have a minute to ourselves, so we did a "first look" around a corner. I totally peeked but he didn't! It was nice to have a minute to ourselves before the ceremony to touch base with each other. It really relaxed me before I walked down the aisle and made all the wedding day stress just fall away.

I had so many DIY touches for my wedding. My dad did some amazing wood work with pallets and I used my Cricut to cut gold vinyl to make signs. I loved our Mr and Mrs signs and our "all you need is love and a cupcake". Our DJ even played All You Need is Love by the Beatles for our cake cutting. My dad also make us a board and easel for our table settings. My mom helped him to make our signing tree which now hangs over our dinner room table. Every time I look at it, I'm reminded of all the love on that day. I made lots of paper decorations with my Cricut. From our wedding invitations to our programs to our place cards and table numbers, it was an invaluable tool and I was so glad that I bought it. We got so many compliments on all the little touches in our wedding and I had so much fun doing them.

I had a couple of something old items. My necklace was made with the pearls that my Grandma and Mom wore on their wedding days. I had a sprig of fake flowers from my Great Great Grandma's bouquet. She passed away when I was 12, so it was a nice way to remember her. Finally, my bouquet was wrapped with a piece of lace from my mom's veil. It was a nice way to incorporate her wedding into mine. My something new was a beautiful bracelet my Mother in Law bought me. My something borrowed was my headband which I borrowed from my friend Amanda. It was special to have something from her because we got engaged on the same day and went through the wedding planning process together. My something blue was my shoes which I dyed navy blue to match my bridesmaids dresses.

My advice for brides currently in the process of wedding planning is to remember that at the end of the day all that is important is that you marry your best friend and that you get to celebrate your love. I had some plans that I ran out of time to do, but I was the only one who knew and in the end, I barely noticed the decorations. Thank goodness we have so many photos of it, so that I could see all of our hard work.
